How to Pick the Right Size RakAdx Hat

To pick the right RakAdx hat size, measure around your head, turn that into a hat size, and compare it with the size range printed on the listing, because flex hats come in set sizes while snapbacks adjust to fit most heads.

Flex hats, snapbacks and beanies

RakAdx sells three main kinds of headwear, and each one sizes differently:

  • Flex hats (also listed as Flexfit or stretch fit) have a closed back with stretch built into the band. There is no strap to adjust, so they come in sizes such as S/M and L/XL, and some add XL/XXL.
  • Snapbacks and trucker hats close with a plastic snap strap at the back. RakAdx lists most of them as OSFM, which means one size fits most.
  • Beanies, such as the blaze orange fold over beanie, are knit and sold in one size.

If you already own a snapback that fits well, a RakAdx snapback is the low risk choice. If you want a flex hat, it pays to measure.

How to measure your head

  • Use a soft measuring tape, or a piece of string and a ruler.
  • Wrap it around your head where a cap sits: across the middle of your forehead, just above your ears, and around the back.
  • Keep it snug but not tight, and read the length in inches.
  • Measure twice and use the larger number.

RakAdx lists flex hat sizes on the traditional US hat scale (numbers like 7 1/4). That number is roughly your head circumference in inches divided by 3.14. For example, a 22 3/4 inch head works out to about 7 1/4.

Reading the size range on a RakAdx listing

Each flex hat listing has a “Fit & Size” line. On the Eastwood Black Flex Hat and several other Mid-Pro flex hats, RakAdx lists:

  • S/M: 6 3/4 to 7 1/4
  • L/XL: 7 1/8 to 7 5/8
  • XL/XXL: 7 3/8 to 8 (listed on the Eastwood Navy Flex Hat)

The ranges overlap. A 7 1/8 or 7 1/4 head sits inside both S/M and L/XL, so pick S/M for a snug fit and L/XL for an easier one. The Eastwood Black also comes in a Youth size, though that listing does not give a range for it.

Not every flex hat uses the same numbers. The Solo RakBuck Camo Flex Hat, for example, lists S/M as 7 to 7 1/4 and L/XL as 7 3/8 to 7 5/8. The Hunter Orange Flex Hat uses the 6 3/4 to 7 1/4 and 7 1/8 to 7 5/8 ranges. Always read the line on the hat you are buying.

What the shape words mean

RakAdx listings describe each hat with a few short terms. In plain words:

  • Structured means the front panels are stiffened so the crown holds its shape. Some listings name the stiffener, such as hard buckram.
  • Mid-Pro or mid profile describes a crown of medium height. Low profile sits closer to the head, high crown sits taller.
  • Precurved visor means the brim comes already bent. A flat bill stays straight.
  • Panels is the number of fabric sections in the crown, such as 5, 6 or 7.

Fabric is listed too. Flex hat listings name the blend, such as poly, cotton and spandex, which is where the stretch comes from.
