Editorial policy

Our buying guides exist so the code you use goes towards the right product. This page explains how they are put together, the standard we hold them to, and what to do if you find something wrong.

What our guides cover

Each guide belongs to one of the stores we list. It explains what that store sells, how the options compare, who each one suits, and what to check before you buy. We have 2,539 guides today, and each one shows the date it was last updated at the top.

Where the information comes from

• The store itself: product names, descriptions, specifications, prices and photographs, as the store publishes them.
• Public sources, such as manufacturer documentation, standards bodies and reputable publications. Where a guide relies on one, it links to it so you can read it yourself.
• Reviews published elsewhere, always credited to the site they came from.

Prices in a guide are the store’s prices when we collected them. Stores change prices often, so always check the price on the store’s own page before you buy.

Our standard on testing

A guide should only describe hands-on testing that we actually did. Where we have not used a product ourselves, a guide explains it from the sources above and says what it is based on.

We are reviewing our older guides against this standard. If you find one that describes testing we did not do, please tell us and we will correct it.

Independence

Stores cannot pay to appear in a guide, to be recommended in one, or to change what one says, and they do not review guides before they are published. How the site is paid for is set out in full in our affiliate disclosure.

Keeping guides accurate

• Every guide shows the date it was last updated.
• When a store changes a product, a price or a policy that a guide depends on, we update the guide.
• When we correct a mistake, we fix it in the guide and update the date.
